Preventing Vision Loss from Diabetes
The American Academy of Ophthalmology is pleased to offer a free informational DVD about preventing vision loss from diabetes. The video, produced in partnership with the American Society of Retina Specialists and with support from Genentech, provides an overview of this potentially blinding eye disease and its treatments, as well as critical tips for minimizing the risks of developing diabetic retinopathy.
The video features three patients who talk about learning to manage their diabetes and maintain their eye health. In addition, Chicago Bears football player Robert Garza shares about his family history of vision loss from diabetes and discusses the importance of being vigilant to protect your own vision.
“We have to exercise, we have to eat the right foods,” Garza says, “but routine checkups, knowing what to do, what is going on with your body is crucial.”
