Tina and your surgeon will be available prior to your procedure for any last minute concerns or questions.

When you arrive at the outpatient surgical facility on the day of your procedure you will be given Valium, so you should arrange for a ride.

You will then be prepared in a sterile field in the procedure room.

During LASIK, a flap is created of the epithelium layer of your cornea by your surgeon to expose the deeper levels of your cornea. Your surgeon then uses the Excimer Laser, a cool-beam laser, to remove the preprogrammed amount of tissue to reshape your cornea. This allows the light rays to reach the correct spot on your retina. After approximately one minute of laser treatment, your surgeon replaces the epithelial flap into it's natural bed without the need for any sutures.

You will begin to notice an improvement in your vision almost immediately. Your surgeon will then do an exam of your cornea to ensure that your epithelial flap is centered and review your postoperative instructions, which include using an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and artificial tears eye drops. You will also have to wear clear shields for the afternoon after your procedure.

You may experience some tearing and irritation for 4-8 hours after your procedure.
